ABOUT NIDO RESEARCH

Research That Begins With the Child.

Who is behind this? Why should I trust it?

Nido Montessori Research Updates is a research initiative emerging from the everyday life of Nido Montessori School in Bachupally.

"Our starting point is simple: Children deserve adults who are willing to keep learning about them."

Our Story

Nido began with a belief in the Montessori approach and in the possibility of giving children an environment where they can become capable, curious and increasingly independent. But creating such an environment also asks something of the adults. We have to keep observing and questioning. And sometimes, we have to be willing to discover that what we thought we knew was incomplete. That is where our research work began. Rather than treating research as something separate from the classroom, we wanted to create a culture where meaningful questions could emerge from everyday practice and be explored thoughtfully.

Why We Research

Because observation changes practice.

When we observe carefully, we notice more. When we notice more, we ask better questions. When we ask better questions, we make more thoughtful decisions. And when we share what we learn, the conversation becomes bigger than one classroom. That is the purpose of Nido's research initiative.

CORE FOUNDATIONS

Our 6 Guiding Principles

PRINCIPLE 01

THE CHILD FIRST

Research should never become more important than the wellbeing of the child.

PRINCIPLE 02

OBSERVE BEFORE INTERPRETING

We try to distinguish what we actually see from what we think it means.

PRINCIPLE 03

EVIDENCE MATTERS

We value Montessori wisdom while also engaging with contemporary research in early childhood development.

PRINCIPLE 04

BE HONEST ABOUT LIMITATIONS

Not every observation is a finding. Not every association is a cause. We believe credibility grows when limitations are acknowledged.

PRINCIPLE 05

SHARE GENEROUSLY

Research should not sit behind complicated language or inaccessible walls. Whenever possible, we make our work understandable to parents, educators and the wider community.

PRINCIPLE 06

KEEP LEARNING

No study is the final word on a child. There is always more to observe. Every child is a BEING!

ROOTED IN MONTESSORI. OPEN TO EVIDENCE.

Our Relationship with Montessori

Montessori is the foundation from which our questions often emerge. We draw inspiration from the Montessori understanding of the child, the prepared environment, independence, movement, concentration, practical life, sensorial exploration and mixed-age communities.

At the same time, we recognise that responsible research requires us to engage with evidence beyond a single educational tradition. Our aim is not to prove that Montessori is always right. Our aim is to understand more deeply.

The most valuable research contribution often comes from the person who spends hours observing children—not necessarily the person with the longest academic title.

Rooted in Montessori.
Guided by Evidence. Grounded in the Child.

Our work draws from Montessori principles, careful observation and established research in early childhood development. We aim to ask meaningful questions without losing sight of the child behind the data.
